Sunrise on top of Haleakala Crater.  We left at 3 am, and got up there about 45 minutes before sunrise.  It was freezing up there.  Haleakala even gets enough snow to ski on.

Sun is just breaking through. Sun breaks the horizen

The Haleakala Silversword is endemic to  the crater and outer slopes of Haleakala Volcano.

Silversword in Haleakala.

We started the day with a sunrise at Haleakala, and finished it with sunset in Kaanapali.

About 40 minutes prior to sunset, we were visited by some locals on outrigger canoes.

Crusing by.

Hana is a very small town on the North side of Maui.   To get there, you drive on a small, windy road, with over 160 turns.  If you look closely, you can see the road carved into the side of the cliffs.

Road to Hana.

About 3/4 of the way to Hana, there is a hidden path that takes you to this waterfall.  I had been there once before with my family, and once again took the plunge off the rocks to the water below.  Here's the proof with the before, during and afterwards photos.

Getting ready to jump. Mid flight. Conquered, though I lost my watch.

Waianapanapa State Park, which has a black sand beach.

This was our main destination on the Road to Hana, site of the Seven Sacred Pools.  At the bottom are three waterfalls and pools, great to relax in.  Then came the four mile hike to the upper fall, Waimoku Falls. Along the way, we came across dense growth of bamboo, long bridges crossing waterfalls and pools and even some cattle (looked like bulls so we ran and didn't take photos).

Bottom of the Seven Sacred Pools, where it drains into the ocean.. One of the many pools created by the falls. Bridge over the falls that leads to the bamboo forest

Another pool.Stacy monkeying around as usual.

Dense bamboo that blocked out almost all sunlight.

And the grand finale, Waimoku Falls- can't remember how high, but it took two separate shots to get the whole thing on film.

 Atlast we arrive! Waimoku Falls.
